Gold Medal

The current protests by our Olympic winning wrestlers against the president of wrestling federation of India - Brij Bhushan Singh makes me think and think hard whether this is a joke or a reality ? I mean in my estimate, these wrestlers are the pride of our country, Sakshi Malik if I’m not wrong won the silver at Rio 2016, who is one of the victims was seen bawling her eyes out. But as we know with every protest these days it turns into a game of pointing out whether there is a underlying theme to it, if the protest is “politically” motivated. And frankly this pattern is what pisses me off, appalling to see the state of it, to see our wrestlers crying on the street for something which has been a bane to our country in the last decade or so. Countless rapes and some of them are heinous crimes which give the same message to us. But here we are at the same place making a mockery of the situation.

Ruchika Girhotra, I don’t know if the name rings any bells but she was a budding tennis star in the early 90s in the state of Haryana. She was sexually harassed by the then Inspector general of police S.P.S Rathore, well I won’t go into the details because that’s another 1000 words and weight of the emotions I have to shed so to cut it short she committed suicide and charming man is still out enjoying his life and gifted her wife a car with a number plate which is stupid.

This was the 90s, today it is 2023 and the president of wrestling federation is still not jailed yet. I have no qualms about India’s claims to be a vishwaguru at G20 or at the SCO but the vishwaguru won’t be happy if his daughter is being sexually harassed.

The other area where i would like to “touch” upon is the inefficiency of our judiciary and there’s so much being said with regards to the lacunae and the pending of cases I wonder what is being done to rectify it ?. I see solutions like increasing the number of judges, increasing infrastructure, increasing other modes of justice - ie arbitration and mediation. But who is doing it ?

We know the problems , we know the solutions and we also know that there is a case of sexual harassment happening right now in the country.

INFORMATION ASYMMETRY

So back when i was in the 8th grade my elder brother who is 4 years elder to me would ask me questions related to a historical event and i wouldn't know the answer to it and he would laugh on me along with my father but i never took it to heart rather i felt i should read more and learn and come back at him with more facts and questions. The question he asked me was in which country did Stalin, Attlee and Harry Truman meet during the world war 2, now this fairly is a tough question to someone of my intelligence which is not much with all due respect to my parents and their genes which have been passed onto me. Jokes aside, it was the Potsdam conference in Germany and after a few years i went up to my brother with vim and vigor ready to pounce on him with a question from Indian history - "where did Gandhi initiate his first Satyagraha" ? and knowing my elder brother he answered it with ease "Champaran" which for my readers is in Bihar. This was a blow to my inte...

Eunuchs - Menace or a subject of systemic failure ?

Recently, a few days ago I was surrounded by a bunch of Eunuchs who happened to visit my house to collect money. In India, this happens to be a thing where Eunuchs come over, give their blessings and in return they take their money. I absolutely despised this particular process, the way they showed me their genitals and used crass language is not a place where I would like to take my blessings from, following an argument for about 45 mins where the Eunuch also offered me 500 Rupees to have sex with him/her which i obviously refused I ultimately had to met out 5000 Rupees to them which left me fuming. But upon deeper introspection, I focused on the why ? After my due research on the internet, I was surprised to see the history associated with Eunuchs in India. Eunuchs are people who have female genitals with secondary masculine characteristics and some undergo voluntary castration, there are cases which point to forced sexual change which is quite sad. Young kids are kidnapped and ...

WORKERS IN INDIA

Read about the pension scheme about a while ago, the old pension scheme is for all government employees and it offers a lifetime pension along with a 10% hike, the new pension scheme is different in the sense it doesn't offer a lifetime pension but the government is exploring to offer 50% of the last drawn salary. But this is only with regards to government employees, the bigger question is what about the rest of 85% of the workers which are largely in the unorganized sector ? What do they get ? What is the worth of an Indian Worker ? I think and i understand a few things about the market right now, most people don't have any sort of social assistance program when they retire. Worth of an Indian Worker in all fairness is nothing in my opinion. Most people suffer at the hands of the company they are employed in. Long working hours, Wages not up to the mark and lack of safety in the environment they work in. Recent example of more than 4,700 Workers who died in Qatar during the c...
